Police Cadets Post 1137
What we do...
The Londonderry Police Cadets is a co-ed program for youth between the ages of 14-20 who are interested in careers in law related fields such as law enforcement, military, emergency dispatch, and forensic science. The explorers run the meeting with the assistance of the adult advisors and guidance of the head advisor Officer Emily Dyer. Officer Dyer helps to coordinate guest speakers and plan exploring events. Some of the events we have been able to assist with are Londonderry Old Home Day kids night (traffic/pedestrian crossing) Derry touch a truck event (also traffic/parking) Londonderry Crop Walk for Hunger (assist with directions along walk). We have also participated in the Law Enforcement Weekend Challenge, Police Standards and Training Cadet academy, NH Experience Boy Scout Jamboree.
When we meet...
The Londonderry Police Cadets meet bi-weekly, Monday evenings from 6-8 pm in room 202 at Londonderry High school during the school year, and at Londonderry Police Station during summer vacation. Every other meeting is either a Physical Fitness meeting or a drill meeting where they participate in either cadet-led fitness or drill and ceremony activities.
Topics we learn about...
Some of the topics that cadets will learn about include what a career in Law Enforcement involves and how it is different from careers in Communications such as emergency Dispatchers. The topics they will be exposed to include; introductory investigative techniques including crime scene investigation, evidence handling, processing, and collection, Crime scene photography, criminal law and procedure, drill and color guard duties, physical fitness and nutrition for law enforcement officers, search techniques (person, building, and outside areas), handcuffing tactics and techniques, crisis intervention and negotiations, ethics and professionalism, fingerprinting, firearms safety and familiarization, officer safety, traffic stop tactics, and procedures, police patrol procedures, use of force, leadership development, team building and communicating.
These are not all the topics that they might learn about but they are some of the most requested by the explorers and we strive to meet the needs of the involved participants.
How to Join...
There is a fee of $100 for new members which covers the cost of the black polo-style uniform shirt, ball cap, and a retro t-shirt. The fee also pays for the membership through Daniel Webster Council. Cadets will need to provide black cargo-style pants such as 5.11 or Propper brand a black belt and black 8-inch boots.
